Jon Van Wie

We were very sorry to hear the news that Master Mouthpiece Craftsman, Jon Van Wie tragically died in early April 2003.

Jon was without a doubt one of the most sought after mouthpiece refacing and customizing artisans in the music business, with hundreds of satisfied customer reports in his file. He had thorough training and understanding about woodwind mouthpieces and a pure dedication to his craft, which was obviously reflected in his work. Jon and I had a mutual respect and liking for each other and I truly appreciated his long term endorsement and support for our reeds. He really loved them and told me often how they helped bring out the most in the mouthpieces he customized, which was a great compliment coming from someone whose work was as good as his.

On the personal level, he was a loyal friend, a person who genuinely cared about others and he has left a wonderful legacy for both his custom mouthpieces and who he was as a human being. He will be truly missed by anyone who had the good fortune to know him and his work.
